Butoh Dance/ Film Performance/

A poetic testimony on immigration, I WILL - Foreign Portrait,   it's a  hybrid artwork that layers, intertwines, and merges artistic languages such a Butoh, dance-theater, photo exhibition, multimedia installation, live cinema and film performance. The work is developed in a transpersonal manner, reflecting the life journey of the performer, author and director Will Lopes as a  immigrant. This session will be marked by the pre-launch of the 16-minute short film, completed in 2024, presented to the public for the first time.

In collaboration with Bosnian photographer Dino Rekanović and the Vienna .ditiramb Association, this performance was realized into an 18-minute short film, which will be premiered in this program. As a reflection on the cultural, social and political concept of belonging and acceptance, the work also includes a photograph and an installations by Austrian set designer Christoff Wiesinger.

The performance that takes place at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna will kick off the 3rd edition of the Hybrid Butoh Festival and will also be part of the closing celebrations of the Rotlicht Festival 2024. It invites the audience to engage in a narrative that explores not only the conflicts of geographical and political borders but also the intersections of artistic and aesthetic languages with the world of photography. The author dedicates this work to all those who lost their lives in the attempt to cross borders, and he will honor them through his dance.
